Omar Abdullah hails civil society for maintaining peace in Jammu

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has hailed the civil society for maintaining peace and harmony in Jammu region and expressed grief over death of three civilians in police firing in Mendhar.

Reviewing the security situation in Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts at a meeting here last evening, Omar asked the civil and police administration to have close liaison with the prominent citizens and representatives of political, religious and social organisations for maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the region.

He expressed grief over the recent death of three civilians in police firing in Mendhar area of Poonch district during a protest demonstration over the alleged desecration of holy Koran in the US, officials said here.

Divisional commissioner of Jammu Pawan Kotwal and IGP of
Jammu Zone Ashok Gupta apprised Omar about the law and order and security situation in the region.

Omar, who also reviewed the development scenario with senior officers, issued instructions to the executing agencies to speed up the pace of ongoing works. 

While reviewing the progress on fourth Tawi Bridge, the chief minister was apprised that work on five piers out of 12 is under progress. Regarding JNNURM, Kotwal said that projects worth Rs9 crore are under progress. Omar also reviewed damage to property due to the recent floods.
