Sudhirkumar Shrivastava, a senior administrator who chairs the group, has suggested that cabs be granted a maximum of 20 minutes to arrive at the pickup location, with penalties for lateness. The group, which was established in April, will soon submit its final report for the required endorsement.
According to a panel formed by the Maharashtra government, drivers of companies like Uber and Ola should be penalized between Rs 50 and RS 75 for each cancellation, with the impacted passenger receiving a reimbursement. Once the government gives its approval, these measures will go into force and will end the practice of charging passengers for cancellations, according to HT.
Sudhirkumar Shrivastava, a senior administrator who chairs the group, has suggested that cabs be granted a maximum of 20 minutes to arrive at the pickup location, with penalties for lateness. The group, which was established in April, will soon submit its final report for the required endorsement.
Additionally, it was suggested that regional transportation officials might have the power to remove aggregator taxis from the list if they are discovered to be in neglect. Riders have often complained about ride-provider drivers canceling rides after taking reservations.
At peak times, the wait time for aggregator cabs has increased by 6 to 10 minutes or even more. According to the suggestions, customers of online taxi booking services like Uber and Ola ought to get a refund if a driver cancels a trip.
The proposed regulations are in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Aggregators Guidelines 2020 published by the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways, which has mandated the adoption of such regulations by all states. The committee also talked about things like criminal record checks, driver training, and fare monitoring.
According to a representative, "The action performed is not in the public domain, and the RTO could be granted the scope for taking the necessary action." Ola and Uber have not offered any feedback on the suggestions. "We will be happy with this decision whenever it is implemented.
As the passenger is dealing with the cab aggregator, the government should let them know how to pay, according to Shirish Deshpande, an attorney for the Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, a group of consumers. "Such a rebate deserves to be handled through the system," he continued, according to HT.
