It appears that rodents aren’t paying heed to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s diktat on banning alcohol in the state. A report in The Hindu states that rodents have ‘guzzled several lakh litres of liquor from seized stocks stored in police stations.

Police said that the rodents nibble off the caps and consume the liquor. They are now working towards making the police stations rat-free.

Prohibition was imposed in the state in April 2016. Since then, police official have had to deal with smuggling of liquor from neighbouring states. In addition, the officials have been facing a space crunch to store seized bottles, with some of them even renting space to store the seized bottles. So far, government records state that over five lakh litres of liquor have been seized and more than 40,000 people have been arrested in the past year.
