Shad Ramzan, professor of Kashmiri in the University of Kashmir, had asked the students to translate a passage from English into Kashmiri, which allegedly had obscene overtones.
A Kashmir University professor has been charged with “promoting obscenity” in a Kashmiri question paper set by him for BA (first year) students.
Shad Ramzan, professor of Kashmiri in the University of Kashmir, had asked the students to translate a passage from English into Kashmiri, which allegedly had obscene overtones.
“From the ancient times, women have been concerned about the shape and size of their breasts. Breast development is the vital part of reproduction in human females,” read the passage. Police said they have booked the professor under section 294 of Ranbir Penal Code 1989, for promoting “obscenity”.
“Yes we have lodged an FIR against the professor for obscenity,” confirmed IGP Kashmir SM Sahai.
A high-level investigation has been launched by the police. However Ramzan has not been arrested so far.
This is the second teacher who has been booked for a question paper controversy in Kashmir this month.
