Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra added elements of speculation on Saturday as he was seen outside Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra’s residence here, a day after four senior most judges of the apex court held a press conference against the CJI.
The Congress was quick to raise questions on the curious development as its spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “As PM’s Principal Secretary, Nripendra Misra, visits CJI’s residence at 5, Krishna Menon Marg, PM must answer the reason for sending this special messenger to CJI”.
While television grab showed Nripendra Misra in his car outside the residence of the top judge, he told a media organisation that he did not meet the CJI. The PM’s Principal Secretary said that he, while on way to office, stopped by at the CJI’s residence and left a greeting card at the gate.
Some media reports said that the CJI declined to meet Misra obviously to avoid more controversy, a day after the four judges of the five-member Supreme Court collegium headed by him criticised him for his style of administration and over the allocation of cases.
