After targeting hawkers in Mumbai, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers attacked hawkers in Pune as well. The party workers forcefully evicted hawkers from Fergusson College and Sinhgad road area on Thursday.
Taking aggressive stand against hawkers following the Elphinstone railway bridge stampede tragedy, the MNS party workers attacked hawkers occupying railway premises including the foot over bridges at several stations in Mumbai. After attacking hawkers in Mumbai, the Pune city unit of MNS had threatened to carry out similar agitation in Pune also. The local MNS leader had given two days time to officials of Pune municipal corporation to take action against the hawkers illegally occupying the public spaces and creating hurdles for commuters.
The MNS party workers on Thursday threw away the fruits, vegetables and other items kept by the hawkers for sale near Rajaram bridge on Sinhgad road, Fergusson college road in Deccan area. Before throwing away the items, the party workers could be seen asking the hawkers if they are from Maharashtra and knows Marathi language.
