Not in national interest: Ram Madhav on Omar tweets

A day after National Conference leader Omar Abdullah taunted Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over disruption of a function in Srinagar, BJP leader Ram Madhav retaliated saying such politics would weaken the country's national foundation.

Abdullah had put out a series of tweets accusing Mufti of playing down raising of "azaadi slogans" at the function. She had said that chaos had broken out at a function after a woman fainted.

Without naming Abdullah, who had put out a series of tweets, the BJP general secretary said "I don't know what happened, but if this kind of politics is practiced it is tantamount to weakening the national foundation of this country."

He was apparently referring to the Opposition leader's tweets, one of which said "I dread to imagine what lies @MehboobaMufti tells PM Modi in private when she can't even be honest about things everyone can see videos of."

The NC alleged that women stormed out of the Mufti event and raised azaadi slogans and said they were coerced to attend the function.

The BJP leader, however, defended the chief minister. "The challenge is to keep the national foundation intact. No effort should be made to weaken the national fabric of this nation; whether it is helping political gains or (by those who) genuinely believe that they should destroy this nation. This is not acceptable," he said.
