KOLKATA: Acting on a tip-off from the army’s intelligence wing, WB police arrested six extremists from the city. They belong to the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), Manipur.

The three men and three women Prepak extremists had rented a house in south Kolkata in close proximity to Jadavpur University. The owner of the house residing next door was also arrested. Raj Kanojia, IG, law & order, West Bengal police said that interrogation of the extremists were going on.

Intelligence sources said that several extremist groups in the North-east has established base in south Kolkata, especially in the residential areas around the university which admits a large number of students from the Northeast. Their objective was to mingle with the student community and raise funds.
