AHMEDABAD: Tipplers in Gujarat were on a high on Saturday evening as rumours of prohibition relaxation in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Gujarat did the rounds. News spread like wild fire that the state government has unveiled a major bonanza ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat global investors’ summit.

While officials remained non-commital on the issue, out-going principal secretary (Home) KC Kapur said: “The proposal was in the pipeline and the file was with the chief minister for approval.”

Even as the chief minister’s office dismissed the reports as rumours, many SEZ developers are already raising a toast. If implemented, this would be the first time alcohol would be allowed in Gujarat, sans special permit.
