Though no permission has been given for the march, the organisers say that the programme will go on as as per the intended schedule.

'Nobody has been given a permission. Since there is an NGT order that no protest can be staged at Jantar Mantar, we have asked organisers to hold the protest at alternate sites like Ramlila Maidan,' Ajay Chaudhary, Joint CP of New Delhi, had said in morning.

However, strange it may seem, the fact remains that despite DCP New Delhi tweeting against any permission for the rally, the organisers were able to set the stage and other things for the event.

The Delhi Police sources now tell DNA that there's no opposition for any peaceful protests. 'Jignesh Mevani is not a criminal,' sources told DNA.

At the venue, there was strong media presence. Ahead of the rally, Mevani told reporters that he was disappointed with Centre's viewpoint. 'Unfortunate. We were just going to demonstrate democratically and peacefully, the Govt is targeting us, an elected representative is not being allowed to speak,' he told ANI. Earlier in the day, sources told DNA that Mevani's phone remained switched off. The young lawmaker from Gujarat shot to limelight after he organised protests against Una cow vigilante case.

The rally is being held against central government's inability to create employment and increasing rightwing violence.
