Recommendations of eight state governments, seven Governors and 14 Union Ministers did not find place in this year's Padma awards that will be conferred on March 20 and April 2.

As many as 35,595 recommendations were received for the awards, announced on January 25, but only 84 were shortlisted, PTI reported, citing Union Home Ministry documents.

Recommendations of eight state governments — Tamil Nadu (6), Haryana (5), J&K (9), Karnataka (44), Uttarakhand (15), Bihar (4), Rajasthan (4) and Delhi (7) — were rejected.

Nominations by seven Governors — West Bengal's Keshari Nath Tripathi (11), Haryana's Kaptan Singh Solanki (7), J&K's NN Vohra (4), UP's Ram Naik (10), Gujarat's OP Kohli (2), Kerala's P Sathasivam (2) and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi (1) did not find place in the Padma awards.

Recommendations of seven Union Cabinet Ministers — Arun Jaitley (1), Maneka Gandhi (4), Prakash Javadekar (6), Ram Vilas Paswan (4), Suresh Prabhu (12), Thawar Chand Gehlot (16) — did not find place in the final list.
