One person died and another was admitted into hospital after consuming drugs as they failed to acquire hooch following the recent tragedy. In the first case, Dhiraj Shah, a 60-year-old resident of the Rabari Vaas at Nava Wadaj, died from consumption of the drugs; meanwhile, Mahesh Vankar (31), a labourer, was rushed to VS hospital.

According to case details, Shah had been addicted to hooch. He had partaken of the drugs last Tuesday after failing to get hold of hooch. When he had not opened the door to his home, his neighbours had immediately contacted his brother Dilip, who had rushed there from his residence. On finding his brother dead, Dilip had informed police control of the same.

The brother of the deceased also gave a statement before the Naranpura police that Shah had been addicted to hooch and when he could not get any, he consumed the drugs, which caused his death.

The Naranpura police, however, told DNA that Shah had committed suicide because of depression. When contacted, PM Parmar, inspector of the Naranpura police station, said that the deceased had hung him from the ceiling of his home as he had been depressed.

In the second case, Vankar, another alcoholic, was rushed to VS hospital after he consumed drugs at his home on Thursday. A source in the police said that a suspected addiction to hooch and its current unavailability may have led to his indulgence in the drugs, soon after consumption of which he started vomiting and fainted.
