Nitish Kumar elected NDA leader; set to return as Bihar CM for fourth consecutive term

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday elected Nitish Kumar as their leader at a meeting in Patna. Kumar is set to return as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth straight term.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday elected JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar as the leader of NDA legislature party at a meeting in Patna. Kumar is set to become the next Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth straight term. Nitish Kumar will take oath on Monday (November 16) at 11:30 AM at Governor's House in Patna.

The NDA leaders further decided that Sushil Modi will be the deputy chief minister.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) held a joint legislature party meeting in Patna on Sunday over Bihar election results. The meeting was held to decide the framework for government formation in Bihar.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh was also present at the meeting. The formal announcement of Nitish Kumar's as NDA leader in Bihar came after a meeting that was attended by senior NDA leaders in Patna. 

On Friday, the Bihar Chief Minister had tendered his resignation to state Governor Phagu Chauhan.

This came as the constituents of the NDA, which secured a majority in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly Elections. Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) were other constituents of NDA in Bihar.

The BJP had won 74 seats, JD-U 43, while eight seats were won by other NDA constituents. The NDA combined won 125 seats, which is three more than the majority mark in the 243-strong Bihar assembly.
