The undertrial prisoner s father in his petition had alleged that his son was being deprived of proper medical treatment.

He had also mentioned that his son was suffering from multiple ailments.

The undertrial is currently lodged in Balasore district jail.

The NHRC passed the order yesterday and asked the IG Prison to inform the petitioner about the action taken within eight weeks.

"What has complicated my son s health condition is perpetual mental harassment and unbearable physical torture inside the jail. The jail authorities are hand-in-gloves with some people outside the jail to make my son suffer every day," the petition said.

"My son had brought these issues to the notice of the court. The court had asked for a report from the jail. No action has been taken so far," the petition said.
