New double-decker AC train on Delhi-Lucknow route from July

Come July and the railways will introduce a special double-decker air-conditioned train for overnight journeys on the high demand route of New Delhi-Lucknow. The new train service, Utkrisht Double-Decker AC Yatri Express, or Uday Express, is being launched to provide affordable yet comfortable travel to passengers, a senior railway official said. The train, which was announced in rail budget 2016-17, is designed to run at 110 km/ph.

Each of the coaches in the train will seat 120 people and will have hot food and beverage vending machines. The only catch with the Uday Express is that it won't have sleeper berths but only comfortable reclining chairs, and this is why fare will be lower than that of the 3AC class in regular mail and express trains despite providing more and better amenities.

The train has been aesthetically designed to provide a modern look. Its coaches will have a large LCD television screen and Wi-Fi connected headphones provided at their seats. All coaches will be equipped with bio-toilets.

While the trains will not have sleeper berths despite being an overnight service, measures have been taken to make the journey comfortable with many added facilities, the official said, on condition of anonymity.
