Here are all the updates about how the candidates fared: BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi defeats Congress's Ajay Maken by 256504 votes.

New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency profile:

New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency which has sent stalwarts like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani to Parliament is witnessing a triangular battle between BJP's new generation face Meenakshi Lekhi, senior Congress leader Ajay Maken and AAP's Brijesh Goyal.

On 12th May, over 16.15 lakh voters across 10 assembly segments -- Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Moti Nagar, Delhi Cantt, Rajinder Nagar, New Delhi, Kasturba Nagar, Malviya Nagar, R K Puram, and Greater Kailash will be deciding the fate of the candidates. It is literally a seat of power with places like Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament, PMO and Supreme Court in this constituency.

After 2008 delimitation, many of the urban parts of South Delhi constituency were merged with New Delhi seat giving it a further elite profile.

New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency has been a saffron stronghold for long. BJP has won the seat six times. Before that Vajpayee won contesting on Janata Partry and Bharatiya Lok Dal ticket. Jan Sangh too has won twice. In this BJP bastion, Ajay Maken defied the odds twice in 2004 and 2009 to win comfortably. In 2014 though, Maken came third behind Lekhi and Ashish Khetan winning only 18% votes. This time though Maken is hoping for a turnaround.

SC mandated sealing which has caused great heartburn among traders is one of the major issues in this election. Ajay Maken is hoping that sealing and other civic issues which help him in this tough election. So is the hope of AAP candidate Brijesh Goyal, who is head of party's traders wing.

Lekhi has exuded confidence at work done by her and Modi magic will be a key determining factor when the electorate cast their vote. Will New Delhi continue to be the bellwether constituency or will it chart a new script.
