A 55-year-old British national who was working as a tunnel engineer with a private firm was found dead at his rented accommodation in the Defence Colony area of south Delhi, police said. The body of Paul Barker was discovered by his friend in the afternoon on Sunday, said a senior police officer.

Preliminary examination suggested that Barker may have died due to over-consumption of alcohol as several beer bottles were found in the room where his body was discovered lying on a bed.After informing police, Barker's friend rushed him to AIIMS where doctors declared him brought dead. Barker had come to India a few months back and was staying alone at his rented accommodation. He was employed by a firm that was associated with tunnelling work for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, he said.

Barker's family members have been informed of his death and the autopsy will be conducted in their presence. A case under relevant sections has been registered in this connection, police added.
