"The facility has already been provided in 77 parks by installing 672 gym equipment. We aim to extend the number of such parks to about 250 by installing 1,595 equipment," North Delhi Mayor Preety Aggarwal said.

She added that the process of developing such gyms had already begun in 43 parks.

"There is a proposal to construct open gyms in 131 more parks by September-end," Aggarwal was quoted as saying in a statement by the NDMC.

The corporation aimed to encourage the citizens to adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to avert the risk of lifestyle diseases, the mayor said.

She added that in order to improve the overall environment in areas under the NDMC, a "big tree plantation drive" had been launched to plant one lakh trees and shrubs by August 23.
