The Congress leaders Mukesh Nayak and Arun Yadav have emerged as the front runners for the post of state party president after incumbent president Kantilal Bhuria is on his way out following the electoral debacle in the recent assembly polls.Meanwhile, the party has almost made up its mind to retain Ajay Singh as leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.State Congress president Bhuria is learnt to have tendered his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi taking responsibility of the rout of the party in the recent assembly polls for the third consecutive term.The party leadership is yet to officially accept this resignation, but started search for an alternative acceptable face to head the party in the state as the crucial Lok Sabha polls is round the corner. The party, according to party sources, short listed - legislator elect Mukesh Nayak and Parliamentarian Arun Yadav - as the suitable alternative candidates to head the party ahead of the ensuing Parliament elections. Nayak’s organizational skill as president of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) and Youth Congress (YC) and his stint as higher education minister found favor with the top party leadership. He is also a Brahamin by caste. The Other Backward Class (OBC) background and youthfulness are among other qualities that helped Yadav to become one of the front runners for the top post.The pary is also considering to retain Singh as its leader of the Opposition in the assembly. However, a final decision is yet to be taken.
