Congress President Sonia Gandhi was Italian by birth and took citizenship of India after marrying Rajiv Gandhi. But she also has some connection with Russia, information known to very few till now. Now Natwar Singh has revealed that connection to the world in his autobiography One life is not enough.

Former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh recounts in his book a trip that he undertook with Sonia Gandhi to Russia in 2005. According to Singh, after the meeting they went to a little town called Vladimir by helicopter. Singh was baffled by the choice of the town as it was little heard of. But soon he realised the relevance of Gandhi's choice. They walked towards a small museum and entered an octagonal room in the building where Sonia revealed that her father was a prisoner of war during World War 2 in that very room. He had escaped from prison and walked all the way to Italy.

Sonia Gandhi received an extremely warm reception in Russia and according to Natwar Singh, Putin even extended privileges normally reserved for the head of the state to her.
