Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met and interacted with a group of over 90 additional secretaries and joint secretaries and urged them to work towards 'simplification of governance processes'. This was the last of five such interactions with bureaucrats that began on August 24, 2017.

During the interaction, officers shared their experiences on a range of subjects; such as governance, social welfare, tribal development, agriculture, horticulture, environment and forests, education, project implementation, urban development, and transportation.

Highlighting the current positive global environment in favour of India, Modi asked officers to work with clear objectives towards creating a New India by 2022. The PM also told them that well-executed projects and schemes should serve as case studies, so that their success can be emulated.

During the fourth meeting on August 31, Modi urged the officers to work towards improving the processes of governance and had said, "Human touch is essential for developing team spirit, which can deliver better collective results."

During his third interaction, Modi mentioned his PRAGATI initiative for project monitoring. On manufacturing, he said that the ecosystem for electronics manufacturing in India should now be focused on medical equipment devices. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a positive working environment in government, in order to make it an 'organic entity'.

He asked the officers to focus attention on the 100 most backward districts of India, so that they can be brought up to the national average level, on various development parameters.

In the second meeting, Modi emphasised that officers must not restrict themselves to files, but go to the field to understand the true impact of decision-making. And in the first meeting, he had stressed on the need for all wings of government to work in harmony to achieve the best possible results.

He said the entire world feels that a successful India is vital for a global balance. He said there is also a strong undercurrent for excellence from the common citizens of India.
