To take Gujarat's infrastructure development to new heights over the next one decade, chief minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday unveiled a very ambitious vision document - 'BIG 2020'. The Blueprint for Infrastructure in Gujarat 2020 (BIG 2020), which envisages an investment of Rs11,80,912 crore across 19 infrastructure sectors, is an integrated plan for the state's infrastructure development.
The CM released the document in the presence of minister of state for industries and planning Saurabh Patel, GIDB managing director AK Sharma, and principal secretary (industries) M Sahu. The 'BIG 2020' predicts to accelerate state's development process and envisions a Gujarat with per capita in the league of top 50 countries of the world.
The creation of infrastructure is expected to attract investments in manufacturing and service facilities which will significantly increase employment and per capita incomes. Gujarat's five-pronged strategy 'Panchamrut' comprising knowledge, security, water, energy and power, along with the BIG 2020, is expected to make significant impact on the state's human development index.
The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) undertook this comprehensive planning exercise in consultation with all departments/agencies of the state government, besides the private sector. The GIDB took consultancy services of CRISIL to prepare this blueprint.
