Mounting a sharp attack on UPA government over the Aadhar card project, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today questioned deployment of massive funds for it, virtually smelling corruption.
Mocking at the claims of UPA government on the Aadhar card project, he said "Congressmen were dancing as if it was a herb for all cures. With the Supreme Court pulling up the Centre, people are now seeking answers from the Prime Minister who should disclose how much money had been spent," he said.
"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should answer how much money has been spent on it, where did all the funds go and who had benefited from it," Modi told a well-attended BJP youth rally at this city in central Tamil Nadu.
Attacking UPA, he said "they only wanted to do things where there is corruption. Things of public welfare do not interest them."
Referring to the apex court order that Aadhaar card was not mandatory for availing various schemes, the Gujarat Chief Minister said he had been pleading for a debate on the unique identity number issue at the National Security Council for the past three years but it was not heeded to.
Sounding the poll bugle of his party in Tamil Nadu ahead of the next year Lok Sabha polls, Modi sought to woo the people of the state blaming the "weak central Government" for the woes of fishermen of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lankan navies respectively.
He appealed to the people to "oust" the UPA government to protect "dignity, self-respect and honour" of the country by eliminating Congress rule which he charged with following "divisive politics" for its survival.
"Congress is divisive by its acts, deeds and in its mind", he charged and reminded people of the thinking by Mahatma Gandhi who wished to dissolve Congress after India achieved independence.
Modi, on his first visit to the state after BJP crowned him as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, sought to strike a chord with the locals surprising them by briefly addressing in Tamil, which evoked thunderous applause from the strong-gathering.
The BJP strongman heaped praises on Tamil language and Tiruchirappalli in particular and recalled he had won with a thumping vote share in Maninagar, his assembly constituency in Gujarat which has a sizeable Tamil population.
