A 20-year-old girl in Nagpur was allegedly set on fire by some unidentified persons near a city lake, police said.

The incident came to light after victim, Nikita Sulwani, was seen engulfed in flames on the terrace of a closed restaurant near a picnic spot at Futala lake in the western part of city shortly after midnight, they said.

The person who saw her screaming for help came to her rescue and got her admitted to a private nursing home.

According to Nagpur Today, nobody except the girl in flames was found on the terrace. The way to the terrace was also locked. Both the hands of the girl were tied and her mouth was gagged with a cloth.

The report also said that a bottle of petrol was also found on the terrace. The eatery named First Love was shut at the time of crime.

Sulwani, who comes from an affluent family which owns a couple of textile units, has sustained 80 % burns and is battling for life.

Police are investigating the matter but no arrests have been made so far.
