Nagarkurnool is one of the Lok Sabha Constituencies that went to vote in Telangana in the Lok Sabha 2019.
Constituency Profile
Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency comprises of seven assembly segments namely Kollapur, Kalwakurthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Achampet and Alampur. Of these, Achampet and Alampur are assembly constituencies which have been reserved for Scheduled Castes.
The seat was a Congress stronghold but in the last few elections it has often vacillated between Congress and TDP. In 2014, Congress candidate Nandi Yellaiah won the seat by a margin of 16,676 votes. He got 4,20,075 votes against TRS’ Manda Jagananath who got 4,03,399 votes.
In 2009 the Congress won the seat with Manda Jagannath getting 4,22,735 votes against second-placed TRS candidate Guvvala Balaraju who got 3,74, 938 votes Praja Rajyam Party’s Devani Satyanaryana got 62,216 votes.
11,16,159 votes exercised their franchsie in 2014 and three of the six who contested lost their deposits.
In 2019, Congress’ Mallu Ravi Challa will face-off against TRS’ Pothuganti Ramulu and BJP’s Shruthi Bangaru.
Telangana, which has 17 Lok Sabha segments, goes to the polls in the first phase on April 11. They are Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Adilabad, Zahirabad, Medak, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Khammam, Bhongir, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Mahabubnagar, Chevella, Secunderabad, Nizamabad, Malkajgiri and Hyderabad.
In 2014, when the state was formed KCR's TRS won 63 of the 119 the Assembly seats in the state. The TRS also won 10 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats, with INC getting 2, BJP getting 1, AIMIM getting 1 and the YSCRCP ending up with one.
