Former Mizoram Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman, who was transferred to Nagaland by the NDA government, has resigned from the post and has sent his resignation letter to President for further consideration.

Purushothaman was upset at being transferred to Nagaland without consulted him, he said, "The transfer was made without consulting me,"

Talking to reporters last evening, Purushothaman, a veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister, said he would get actively involved with party politics, but not in electoral politics.

In a reshuffle of governors effected by the Centre on July 6, 2014, Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram while Purushothaman was transferred and appointed as Governor of Nagaland. He was also given additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura.

He is the sixth governor to resign in an ongoing drive by the Modi government to remove UPA-appointees in the top office. Many governors had received calls from Home Secretary Anil Goswami asking them to step down.
