Muzaffarpur shelter home case: CBI arrests ex officer, 3 others for abetting abuse

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested four people, including then senior officer of the Social Welfare Department of Bihar, on Thursday in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls at a shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur. Rosy Rani, then Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department between 2015-17, was arrested from her Sonpur residence and three other accused — Guddu, Vijay and Santosh (prime accused Brajesh Thakur's employees) — from their Muzaffarpur residences, the agency said, adding that Rani had ignored complaints of sexual abuse by the inmates when she visited the shelter homes. Rani is being booked for abetment under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act for allegedly failing to act in spite of receiving complaints.
It is further alleged that all the three arrested accused had allegedly sexually exploited the girls in the shelter home. Further, the agency has frozen 20 bank accounts of Thakur and prohibited any transaction of his movable and immovable properties.
