On the direction of the state government, the district authorities have tightened security for gangrape victims and each of them has been provided with two security guards at their residence, SSP HN Singh said. Last month, one of the victims' family had complained to the state government alleging that the rape victim's husband had received threat calls demanding withdrawal of the case against the accused, he said.

Six cases of gang-rape were registered against 27 people  during riots in which the Special Investigating team (SIT) probing the riots, found the involvement of 22 people. While one Vedpal was arrested, 21 others are absconding and attachment proceedings against them have been initiated by the court.

Over 60 persons were killed and more than 40,000 displaced in communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in September last year.
