The prosecution had examined a total of 24 witnesses in the case. All of them had supported the prosecution. Additional Session's judge H C Shendge had convicted the two accused Anil Yadav (34) and Rajpati Nishad (27) on Saturday. However, since the defence advocates were unavailable, the sentenced was posted for Monday.

The court held the two men guilty under the charges of wrongful restrain, robbery, attempt to rape and attempt to outrage the modesty of a woman.

The case dates back to 2011. On the fateful night of December 26, 2011, the girl had gone to meet some friends in Vasai. After meeting them, she left for her house in Mulund around 12.30 am. Her friends dropped her at Dahisar, where she flagged Yadav's rickshaw. On the way, Nishad got into the auto and instead of taking the highway route, Yadav took her to a secluded spot at Aarey colony and tried to rape her. However, she shouted for help and the duo fled. The police were successful in nabbing both the accused with the help of call data records (CDR) on December 29, 2011.
