A fire broke out in the fourth floor of Navrang Studio located in Today Mills in Mumbai’s Lower Parel early on Friday.

According to PTI, 12 fire engines, which were rushed to the spot, brought the fire under control. An ambulance and 7 tankers also reached the spot, reported news agency PTI.

News agency ANI also reported that one fireman was injured while dousing the flames.

The studio, located in a dilapidated building, has not been functional for many years. According to ANI, the structure is at a risk of collapse.

The fire is another one that has been reported in the island city since a massive fire killed 14 people inside a restaurant in Kamala Mills, also located in Lower Parel. Since then, Lower Parel has witnessed three fires (including the one this morning). A fire has been reported from Marol in Andheri east that killed a family of four. Cinevista Studios in Kanjurmarg also caught fire, killing one person inside, as well as a fire in Nagpada in Mumbai Central.

A DNA report earlier in the month also highlighted the strength of Mumbai’s fire brigade. If the current staff strength is considered, then each officer must inspect over 1,100 buildings every six months — that is if he does not take a single day of leave. It means every officer must inspect six buildings a day without taking a single day's break.

Another report by DNA found that 4,647 high-rises inspected by the city’s fire department had not adhered to fire safety norms. They only complied after legal notices were sent to them. A report by Mid-Day also highlighted how KEM Hospital, the city’s busiest civic hospital was a walking deathtrap, with non-functional fire extinguishers.
