A plea was filed in the Bombay High Court against the Maharashtra government's order allowing only fully vaccinated passengers to travel in the Mumbai local trains. Calling the order arbitrary, unconstitutional, unlawful and violating the fundamental rights of citizens, the plea said that the Central government has made vaccines voluntary. However, this order of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government is forcing citizens to get vaccinated.

The plea was filed by Yohan Tengra, a medical consultant and activist and it challenged the state government's circulars issued on August 10 and 11 permitting only fully vaccinated people to travel on local trains

Tengra's plea also mentioned that there was no conclusive evidence to show that vaccines are effective, as they are at an experimental stage and are not approved by the food and drug department.

Along with this, the plea also challenged the circular of July 15 which allows only people vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine or an RT-PCR test within 14 days to enter Maharashtra.

Last month, the Maharashtra government had resumed local train services for fully vaccinated passengers. This important decision was taken by the Maharashtra government after accepting the recommendations of the Maharashtra COVID-19 task force.
