Mumbai: Inferno at crucial Income Tax offices raises eyebrow

A level 4 fire broke out at Scindia House (Commercial) Office building in Ballard Estate on Friday evening. The six-storeyed building houses offices of the Income Tax and Debts recovery tribunal. The floors that were gutted held several important I-T files and records, raising the question of sabotage.

The blaze started at 4.50 pm and a level 4 was declared at 7.20 pm. Five people trapped on the top floor were rescued by firemen at around 5.30 pm and one person trapped on the second floor was rescued at around 6 pm. A fireman was injured. At the time of this report going to print, the fire-fighting operations were still underway.
