Mumbai girl ends life by jumping into well after parents take away her phone

In a shocking incident, a girl in Mumbai's Nalasopara allegedly committed suicide after her father took away her phone for spending too much time on it.

On Monday night, 22-year-old Shraddha Dhavle's parents had filed a missing complaint after their daughter disappeared from their residence in Omkar Nivas, according to a TOI report. Earlier before her disappearance, Shraddha's father scolded her for spending hours using her mobile phone. After warning Shraddha for her alleged 'addiction' to her cellphone, her father took away her phone. Following that, she marched out of the house in anger. 

When she failed to return to home by 9.45pm, Shraddha's parents and neighbours went out looking for her. Later, her parents rushed to the Nalasopara police station and registered a missing complaint.

Her body was found in a nearby well on Tuesday and the police had registered a case of accidental death.

The police in a statement said that the father had mentioned about his daughter's depression battle after she underwent brain surgery in 2015. Since her surgery, the girl used to remain aloof and depressed.

In another incident last month, a 14-year-old girl committed suicide after her mother chided her for being inefficient in doing household chores, the police. Sejal Doraswami Mudliar, who had just completed her eighth standard, hung herself to a ceiling fan in her residence at Kalewadi area in Pune.

According to her mother's statement, the family was planning to visit their ancestral village in Chennai after a couple of days. However, her daughter took the drastic step before the plan transpired.

The investigating officer, Abhijeet Jadhav of Wakad police station said, "In a statement given by the girl's mother, they were planning to travel to Chennai in a couple of days. Before going out of the station, her mother wanted Sejal to help her in cleaning the house. However, when she found that Sejal had not done any work at home, she scolded her."

"We suspect that Sejal was upset for getting scolded by her mother and in that feat of anger, she might have committed suicide," he added.

A case of accidental death was registered by the police then.
