"The boy was admitted to Rajawadi Hospital on June 21 after he fell from the local train. He was declared brain dead on Friday, following which he was shifted to our hospital," said Abhijit Sinkar, transplant coordinator at Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli. The teenager's family is based in Wadala and he is survived by his sister and parents.

While the boy's heart went to a 31-year-old woman at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, his liver went to a 76-year-old man at Global Hospital. One kidney went to a patient at the Godrej Hospital, while the other was given to a 26-year-old girl at Jaslok Hospital. However, the harvested corneas were sent to the eye bank.

"We are definitely witnessing a rise in the number of cadaver and organ donations thanks to the awareness created by us, the media and several NGOs," said Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC) coordinator Rahul Wasnik.
