Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday raised questions on whether the multi-party parliamentary democratic system has succeeded in the country. He said, "There is a question in the minds of the people whether the multi-party democratic system failed to fulfil the aspirations of the citizens of the country?"

Shah made the remarks while comparing the five-year of NDA 1.0 with the earlier regimes spanning over 70 years. He was addressing the 46th National Management Convention held by All India Management Association (AIMA).

The founding fathers of the country, he said, had envisioned a multi-party parliamentary democratic system in the country to create a welfare state and give voice to every citizen of the society in the country. They wanted to create a powerful nation, with empowered citizens that can provide leadership in the field of global welfare.

STRONG FOUNDATION

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that India is on way to becoming 5 trillion dollar economy by 2024 because of the “strong foundations” laid by the Modi government, He claimed that 5 years ago, GDP growth rate was around 6%, but is now around 7.5%

"But 70 years after Independence, the people of the nation had doubts in their mind if the multi-party parliamentary democratic system had failed. Will it be able to meet our goals? They were disappointed," said Amit Shah.

Extending best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 69th birthday, Shah credited Modi government for removing the culture of policy paralysis by taking bold decisions.

"The previous governments could take only five decisions in the last 30 years, whereas, Modi government took over 50 decisions in last 5 years. These included implementing GST and insolvency and bankruptcy code, opening Jan Dhan accounts, ending triple talaq, surgical strikes on terrorist camps across the border, one rank one pension, removing Article 370 and 35A, to name a few," said Shah.

"In the India of 2013 there used to be news of corruption every day, borders were insecure, soldiers were beheaded, women felt unsafe and people protested on the roads every day... The government was politically paralysed. No decisions were taken," he said.

There was a government where every Minister considered himself as the PM, whereas, the PM himself was not considered as PM, added Shah taking a dig at the Congress government.
