Holding the Centre and the state governments responsible for galloping prices of essential commodities, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today asked his party workers to stage a peaceful protest over the issue.Both the Union and state governments were not "serious" in tackling the price spiral, he told a meeting of his party's district and city unit presidents here. The party workers should not remain silent and wage a peaceful stir over the issue, Yadav said demanding setting up of fair price shops at the block-level in villages.Besides the rising prices, the party workers should highlight problems pertaining to farmers, he said.Yadav lashed out at chief minister Mayawati alleging her government had failed to improve the lot of the commom man in Uttar Pradesh. The SP head asked party activists to the strengthen the organisation in villages.It was decided at the meeting that party workers would take out "cycle yatras" and hold meetings in all assembly constituencies to take stock of problems plaguing the people, SP sources said.
