Mujib Year celebrations: First ever Indo-Bangla friendship motoring drive 'Moitri' flagged off in Kolkata

As a part of birth centenary celebrations of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman – the father of the nation of Bangladesh, the first-ever Indo-Bangladesh Friendship Motoring Drive 2020 was flagged off in Kolkata on Friday.

The car rally named – ‘Moitri’ was flagged off on this day amidst the presence of dignitaries from Indian Automobile Association, Automobile Association of Eastern India and Bangladesh Deputy High Commission.

The cavalcade which will comprise as many as 21 cars will proceed towards the Indo- Bangla border of Petrapole-Benapole on March 1 and end at North Bengal on March 7, 2020.

The car rally will cover more than 2,000 km where it will cross West Bengal, enter the Bangladesh territory of Benapole and proceed towards Jessore, Dhaka, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mymensingh and Rangpur and then eventually turn towards West Bengal again.

“Those participating in the car rally will pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi. Later, we will perform a cultural show at Dhaka and Chittagong being put together by the participants of the car rally,” said Madan Mitra, chairman, Automobile Association of Eastern India (AAEI).  

The rally will be lead by a traditional taxi – an ambassador car from Kolkata painted with the national flag of both the nations depicting the culture and heritage of both the countries.

“In our efforts towards advocacy of safe, clean and fair and green mobility for all, we are proud to flag off ‘Moitri’ the first-ever cross- country motor car rally involving Bangladesh and India. The focal objective of ‘Moitri’ is to spread the golden rules of road safety among the masses and there could be no better time than the birth centenary celebrations of the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” said Milon Mukherjee, chairman, Automobile Association of Eastern India (AAEI).
