Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government wants AFSPA removed despite terror attacks
On a day when three terror attacks rocked the Valley claiming lives of three policemen, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said it would work towards a phased withdrawal of the controversial AFSPA from areas in the state that are free from militancy for some time.

In a written reply to a question of National Conference MLA Devender Rana, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said, "Keeping in view the improving security scenario, the state government will examine the need for denotifying disturbed areas which have been free from militancy related incidents for quite some time so as to enable a phased withdrawal of AFSPA from such areas."
Rana wanted to know whether the government proposes to revoke AFSPA and the criterion being adopted to identify the areas where AFSPA can be removed. Kashmir on Monday witnessed three terror attacks. In the deadliest of the attacks, three policemen were killed in a militant ambush at Ashipora area in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
