The UP Police team was escorting gangster Feroz Khan to Lucknow from Mumbai. A relative of the gangster was also accompanying the police for identification purposes.
As per a Zee News report, the accident occurred due to the sudden arrival of cows on the road.
Three policemen, including a family of the accused, were also injured in the accident that took place at around 6 am on Sunday on Gwalior-Betul National Highway near Jogipura Toll under Chanchoda police station limits.
Gangster Feroz Khan was booked in 2014 under the UP Gangster Act and was absconding since the case was registered.
The police station in-charge Aditya Soni said that a team from Thakurganj police station in Lucknow had nabbed Feroz Khan, who was absconding since 2014, from Nallasopara area of Maharashtra's Palghar district adjoining Mumbai.
The UP police team was on the way to Lucknow in an Innova car, when a herd of cows was seen sitting on the roadside about one km before the Jogipura toll tip.
A cow from the herd suddenly appeared on the road, and in order to save it, the vehicle lost balance, hit the divider and overturned on the other side of the road.
Assistant sub-inspector JP Pandey of Lucknow Thakurganj police station, constable Sanjeev Kumar and Afzal, a relative of the accused were injured in the accident. The injured were immediately rushed to Civil Hospital Biaora, however, the accused Feroz died on the way.
Doctors declared him dead at the hospital.
