More brutality: Dog loses eye after Chennai man flings brick at her

In another case of the display of the absolute monstrosity humans are capable of, a man in Chennai has been arrested by the police for throwing a brick at a stray dog and blinding her in one eye. The incident came to light late on Wednesday after locals brought the dog to a veterinary hospital.

Animal rights activist and wildlife conservationist Shravan Krishnan posted pictures on Facebook of the dog, whose eyeball had popped out of her socket after she had been hit with the brick. The incident occurred in the Odaikuppam, which lies on the southern end of Chennai’s glitzy Besant Nagar Beach.

Locals said the man, who has been identified as Alex in news reports, was notorious for attacking stray animals in the area. They alleged he was known to indulge in sexual activities with stray dogs. They also alleged that he breaks limbs of stray dog and cats in his locality, and causes pain and suffering in other ways as well.

“A few villagers from the neighbouring fishing village came to BMAD (Besant Memorial Animal Dispensary) with this dog. A man threw a big brick on her head and one of her eye popped out... Unfortunately for this girl , she had to lose her eye. She is an extremely friendly and a docile dog,” read a Facebook post by Shravan on Wednesday night.

The attacker has been booked under Sections 428 and 429 of the IPC, which address the killing or maiming of animals, as well as relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act of 1960, reported The News Minute.

“It seemed earlier that the dog was aggressive, and that’s why he hit her. However, we found her (the dog) to be extremely friendly. She did not even resist much when we caught her and brought her to the dispensary,” Shravan was reported as saying.

Shravan was also the person who had initially highlighted the case of Bhadra, the stray dog in the viral video which showed her being thrown off the roof by students of a medical college. In that case too, the perpetrators had been identified and action had been taken against them.
