In the middle of the ongoing hyperbole election campaign in Uttar Pradesh elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned sombre in the 29th edition of his radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat on Sunday by talking about ISRO's (Indian Space Research Organisation) feat of launching 104 satellites in one go through PSLV and congratulating farmers for record production of food grains.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had sought special permission from the Election Commission for PM's Mann Ki Baat that was aired on Sunday – less than 24 hours before UP goes for the crucial 5th phase polls.

Keeping away from making any sort of political comment that has been a hallmark of his recent electoral speeches, PM Modi subtly addressed the vast constituency from farmers to dalits, women, youth and the scientific community in his Mann Ki Baat.

PM Modi began his Mann Ki Baat by greeting people quoting the verse of great Sufi musician, poet and scholar Amir Khusrau's on Spring season (Basant).

Thereafter, he congratulated the scientists of ISRO for scripting history through their remarkable feat.

"After the successful mission of sending Mangalyaan to Mars, ISRO has scripted a world record in the arena of space. These satellites belonged to various countries... ISRO's cost effective, efficient space programme has become a marvel for the entire world," said Modi, especially mentioning Carosat 2D satellite for being a great help in mapping of resources and infrastructure and planning for urban development.

He congratulated the scientists for the successful launch of Ballistic Interceptor Missile that has the capability to destroy enemy missile within a 100-kilometre range in the the air.

In his a little over 30-minute radio broadcast, Modi also lauded the role of the farmers for record production of food grains this year.

"All indicators are pointing that our farmers have broken all previous records... This year, there has been more than 2,700 lakh tonnes production of food grains which is over 8 per cent more than the last record," said Modi asking farmers to produce different types of lentils that give maximum protein.

He asked each youth to teach at least 125 persons, especially the small traders, how to use the BHIM App that allows money transfer between any two bank accounts by using a smartphone.

PM Modi also talked about empowering women through Beti Padhao Beti Bachao movement and congratulated the Indian women Rugby team for for winning the silver medal in Asian Trophy.
