According to report, villagers in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh dragged Mohammad Akhlaq and his son Danish and beat them with bricks. Akhlaq, a farm worker, succumbed to injuries. His son is in hospital in critical condition.

A case of rioting and murder has been registered against 10 people, while six people have been arrested.

The police have sent the meat for forensic testing and are investigating the matter to find out who spread the rumour.

However, Akhlaq's family said that they only had mutton in their fridge and not the meat.
