A second-year law student from the Dalit community was lynched in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad and horrific visuals of him being attacked with bricks and iron rods have been caught on tape.

Dilip Saroj, 24, of Allahabad Degree College died on Sunday. The attack took place near a restaurant in the city's Katra area the previous night.

He had sustained serious head injuries and succumbed during treatment. The police have identified one of the three attackers as Vijay Shankar, a Railway TTE.

The victim and his friends had come to the restaurant where they had an argument with a group of men who started assaulting them.

Saroj was caught alone as his friends managed to escape. He was rushed to a private hospital but did not survive. An FIR has been lodged against three persons. Originally from UP's Pratapgarh, the victim had been living in a rented accommodation in Allahabad for his studies.

Visuals showed a man lifting rocks and metal rods from the road and hitting Dilip. Visuals also showed some people taking a badly injured Dilip to hospital.
