Mob attacks Okha-Puri Express coach, three injured

Three people were severely injured, while many others received minor injuries when the coach S-6 of the Okha- Puri Express in which they were travelling was attacked by over 30 people near Surat railway station, police said today.

The incident took place early in the morning near Utkalnagar area when some persons in the train pulled chain and stopped the train, police said.

According to police, as soon as the train stopped, a mob of 30 odd people entered the S-6 compartment of the Okha-Puri Express.

When the passengers of the coach tried to stop them from entering, they were beaten up causing severe injuries to three of them, while many others sustained minor injuries, police said.

Passengers told the police that some persons from mob entered the toilet of the compartment and took away two big packets containing what appeared to be white powder and ran away, police said.

Three persons who received severe injuries have been admitted to a hospital in Bharuch district, after passengers forced the train to stop for over two hours there, railway officials at the Bharuch railway station said.

After over two hours the railway officials and police at Bharuch station were able to persuade the passengers and the train left for its destination, they said. 

Railway police said that a case has been registered and further probe was on.
