Unidentified persons entered a 'Madrassa' at Elpel in Kukkippady village near Mangaluru and torched the furniture inside the religious institution, police said on Saturday.

It is suspected that the miscreants gained entry into Jalalia Madrassa, on June 8, as the front door was not locked, and set fire to the furniture using Kerosene, they said.

Doors and windows of the Madrassa were partially burnt in the blaze and an empty Kerosene bottle was found inside the hall, police said. On a complaint from Mavinakatte Jumma Masjid President Abdul Razack on Friday, police reached the spot and conducted investigations.

Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Bhushan G Borase, Deputy Superintendent of Police Raveesh and other officials visited the spot.
