Writer and socialite Shobhaa De today condoled the death of artist MF Husain. She said, "I met Husain saab two days ago, in London where i currently am. It is very important that people understand that MF Husain was an unparalleled artist. He was not a trouble- maker as some of the narrow-minded elements of our society tried to portray him as."

She said, "Husain saab was beyond religion and other such issues. He was not there to offend anybody but he was there to express himself. When I spoke to him he talked passionately about his last work -- The Ramayana. It is unfortunate that he was not allowed to come back to his homeland and nothing can make up for this loss."

She added, "It is too late to undo the disrespect we have shown to Husain saab. Let's not talk about conferring Bharat Ratna on him posthumously. He was and will be the Bharat Ratna even if we didn't know his value while he lived."
