Mehbooba Mufti toughens stance against Governor

Hardening her stance in the run-up to the polls, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday warned the governor administration against what she called playing with fire by sowing seeds of discord and disempowering Muslim majority of the Jammu and Kashmir.

"You cannot adopt different yardsticks for different regions of the state. There are strenuous efforts being made to create new fault lines, pit people of the state against one another. I caution the Governor's administration to not play with fire in a sensitive state like Jammu and Kashmir. Those at the helm, including Governor Malik, must know that," said Mehbooba.

Mehbooba added that the governor is implementing the core BJP agenda in an otherwise Muslim majority state by dividing Jammu and Kashmir into fragments.

"We acted as a major hurdle for the BJP to implement its agenda in Jammu and Kashmir. However, since the time it toppled the democratically-elected government, the party is trying to rule the state through the Governor and is making strenuous efforts to alienate the Muslims of the state," Mehbooba said.
