The 2007 Mecca masjid blasts case here has turned "cold" as two prime suspects in the terror attack are believed to have died, union home minister P Chidambaram said here on Friday.

"Mecca masjid case has turned cold. The reason is we think that the two primary suspects in that case are dead," Chidambaram told reporters.

"Unless we get further clues, it is not possible to take it forward. But the CBI is working on that," he said.

Nine people had died in the bomb blast at the historic Mecca masjid here on May 18, 2007.

The case was initially investigated by the Andhra Pradesh state police and the probe was subsequently handed over to CBI.

Chidambaram was speaking to reporters after reviewing the security situation in the state with chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, home minister K Jana Reddy and top officials.

The meeting is a follow-up to the chief ministers' conference held in New Delhi in January this year.
