In a major escalation by Pakistan, the Pakistani army carried out multiple airspace violations and drone intrusions on the night of May 7 and 8, targeting Indian military infrastructure. However, the attempts were foiled by the Indian armed forces.
"These provocative and escalatory actions taken by Pakistan last night were targeted at Indian cities and civilian infrastructure in addition to military establishments. Indian armed forces responded proportionately, adequately, and responsibly... The official and blatantly farsical denial of these attacks that Pakistan carried out, by the Pakistani state machinery is another example of their duplicity and the new depths", Vikram Misri said while addressing the media briefing.
Pakistan's attempted retaliation comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor - in repsonse to the Pahalgam tragedy - under which nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) were successfully destroyed.
As many as 25 Indian nationals and a Nepali national lost their lives as terrorists opened fire at Baisaran Valley in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. Following the massacre, the bilateral ties between India and Pakistan have witnessed a significant deterioration.
