On the closing day of its two-day national convention, the Bharatiya Janata Party gave a clarion call to the nation to vote for a ‘mazboot sarkar’ (strong government) and reject efforts to bring in a  ‘majboor sarkar’ (helpless government).

An estimated 12,000 party members, who had come to Delhi from across the country to attended the national convention at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, returned to their respective states with the poll slogan ‘Abki baar fir Modi sarkar’.

In his over 80-minute-long valedictory address on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sounded the poll bugle, stating that “anarchic political parties” have desperately come together and trying to defeat him.

“Perhaps for the first time that these political parties, belonging to diverse political platforms, have gathered to defeat one person,” the Prime Minister said.

He spoke at length about his development agenda, made a brief mention of the Ram temple issue blaming the Congress for delaying its resolution and projected his rivals as “corrupt” against his government’s “spotless” record in office.

“They want a helpless government so that they can indulge in corruption. We want a strong government so that we can put an end to corruption and bring all-round development to the country,” PM Modi said.

In his concluding speech, BJP president Amit Shah asked party workers to reach out to the beneficiaries of Modi government’s schemes. There are as many as 22 crore beneficiaries, he said, and every karyakarta has the task to reach out to at least 10.

Shah asked the party workers to go back to their respective states with a pledge to ensure a “big victory” for the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to instal Modi government 2.0 at the Centre.

On the party’s drubbing in the three Hindi heartland states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh — the BJP president asked party workers not to lose hopes.

“Our opponents have won, but BJP is not defeated. Our party has not lost its ground,” he said.  “The 2019 election is significant for the country as well as the BJP. If we win, we will rule from Parliament to Panchayat for the time to come,” the BJP president said.

The national convention passed a political resolution on Saturday, which states: “Choice is between stability or instability, between an honest and courageous leader, and a leaderless opportunistic alliance, majboot government or a majboor government.:

“The people of the country are sure to re-elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi to continue with his work with renewed dedication. The BJP is determined to make this vision a reality in the coming elections,” it said. “It has been more than four-and-a-half years that India is being governed by the BJP-led NDA under the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this journey of development every section of society is feeling empowered, realising the core development philosophy of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,” it said.
